Let Them Eat Cake Why shouldn't our precious hounds enjoy sweetstuffs made just for them? The Honeybark Bakery, where Geri Sim is the chef de cuisine, turns out treats for dogs using scrumptious ingredients, such as bananas, apples, pears, flax seed, and cinnamon. Of course, there are the usual doggy must-have comestibles, such as beef and cheese. Check out the Honeybark selection of homemade goodies. When Dog Lady fed these to her dog, he gobbled without discretion. These are dog treats guaranteed to put you in a quandry about whether or not you should steal a bite. -Ask Dog Lady |

The Star Ledger August 20, 2006
"Dear Joan: You don't write about pet foods. Why is that and what do you feed your own dog?-- Carol G. Anderson, Clifton
Carol: Just once, I devoted a column to pet food choices, which gave me a headache because the market is glutted with so many options, it would take a year to research them all. Each day, Timber, my 3 1/2-year-old husky, devours two cups of Eukanuba mixed with Hill's Science Diet "'Nature's Best," both dry chunk products. He adores Hartz DentiChews, beneficial to teeth but not hard on them. For treats, he favors Nutro and Iams bones and biscuits, plus Nathan's Famous beef franks for dogs, Zen Puppy tiny triangular treats (like catnip to a cat) and Honeybark Bakery's treats, especially "'banana bliss." All transport him to doggy nirvana when dispensed in moderation. I don't want Timber to become too "'husky.
