FAQ pageWho are you? My name is Geri and I am the treat maker. I started The Honeybark Bakery out of pure passion for baking and the love of my dog. What made you start this bakery? My healthcare background made me want to share my knowledge of nutrition and the importance of a healthy heart. I wanted to do something exciting and creative with food and started out baking cake with the intention of becoming an organic pastry chef. After reading dozens of cookbooks, baking a lot of cake, and finding my dog Katie at my feet giving me soulful looks, I gave in and baked some dog treats. Katie loved them. This led to research on baking for dogs, dog nutrition, and the development of some great tasting yet healthy treats. I spoke to many other dog owners who had the desire but not the time or ability to make wholesome tasty treats for their dogs and thus began my mission. What goes into your treats? I make healthy gourmet dog treats with delicious flavors that are found in family recipes, restaurants and bakeries. The foods that you enjoy can now be shared with your dog. the ingredients are all natural, low fat, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables. There are no added preservatives, chemicals, salt, artificial flavors or colors. The nuts and seeds are organic. The treats are sweetened with pure golden honey, molasses or brown sugar. I only use high quality ingredients. The page listing the exact ingredients is located here. When did The Honeybark Bakery open? The Honeybark Bakery was started in January of 2006. Where are these treats made? We are located in New Hyde Park, New York. Why do you make dog treats? The Honeybark Bakery currently distributes treats to many local establishments including rescues, shelters, and animal hospitals. This is a way for us to give tasty treats to all dogs even those that have not yet found a home. We want to order a cake for our dog's birthday do you deliver outside of NY? You could order a cake unfrosted with the treats to decorate and it is a do it yourself, just finish off the last step deal. We will freeze the cake for you and then send it to you. By the time it arrives it will be ready to go for your party or you could pop it back in the freezer for up to 4-6 months. How do I store the treats? Is tupperware okay? Any type of plastic container is really not recommended for baked goods. The best way to keep baked goods, like bread and biscuits is to freeze them and then take out what you need and it will defrost pretty quickly. Actually, dogs love frozen treats so if you were to put the treats in the freezer, your dog will get a double delight. The other ways to keep our treats is by storing in a paper lunch sack or in a glass or ceramic treat/cookie jar. We recommend something pretty like those from Pedishe or if you are in the Roslyn, NY area check out The Pet Pantry because they have a great selection of treat jars. What is a good treat for a big dog? Our best sellers are our Ruffy Road "O"'s and the Granny's Apple Pie. But the big beefy taste of the Original Beef Snaps is also a hit in the big dog crowd. What's good for a dog that likes soft treats? Everything Nice is a good bet. The dogs love the molasses and spice and there is apple in there too. This can be made for big or small dogs. As well, we have mini pupcakes and these can be stored in the freezer for fresh baked treats up to 4 months. What's good for the little dogs? I've got a dachshund that loves the Granny's Apple Pie. The mini bones and the entire mini treat collection were made for the little dogs but they are also good for the all day snacker dogs. Because they are healthy, you do not have to worry about your dog getting fat on our treats. Just take them in moderation like all good things should be enjoyed. Yes, and the mini pupcakes are really good for little dogs. My dog loves cheese, what can I get him? Say Cheese Stars are awesome because they are made with real cheddar cheese and apple. It's a favorite of many dogs big or small that love the taste of cheese. My dog gets a little stomach upset from time to time. What can I try? Everything Nice is actually made for that reason. It contains ginger and this is good for nausea and sensitive stomachs. I'd like to try some flavors out. Where can I find your treats to test out? Just ask us! We will be at so many events and our treats are being given away for charity and adoption events. As well, we will be running samples out to you if you want any particular flavor, just to cover the shipping we will be sending out a tasting menu just for that reason. We have over 21 flavors to try so why not find out what your dog likes? That makes us happy because your dog will enjoy some new flavors and you will have peace of mind that you are getting something for your dog that they like!
